DND (Do not Disturb) – NCC new policy, what about it?

So we started having issues with delivery for some networks especially MTN and after some digging, it feels like a new feature called DND, asked to be activated by NCC by Operators is disrupting the Bulk SMS market. Read our last update about it here

So what is this DND?

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all Telecommunications Company (MTN, GLO, Airtel, Etisalat, etc.) to allow existing subscribers to opt-in to receive SMS on Telemarketing, including but not limited to Value Added Services, e.g. flight schedule, weather forecast etc. in conformity with Part 111, section 20 (2) of CCPR, while consent of new subscribers will be sought to opt-in at the beginning of the contract.

Some Operators like MTN NG have since implemented a Full Blocking mode for Do-Not-Disturb on some numbers without the consent of the subscribers on their network e.g myself in person on 08062741555 and you can imagine how frustrating it was to not receive all smsBAG updates and daily reports because of MTN.

The downside for our customers is that if you send an sms to a DND number, we might still charge you because we are charged for operator delivery not customer delivery. We apologize in advance, If you notice NOT_DELIVERED to some specific numbers in your list, Kindly tell them to check there DND status.

For MTN users, text STATUS to 2442 for your DND status, and Allow or STOP for full Allow or Full Stop. for other options, send HELP to 2442.

MTN Nigeria Delivery: DND (Do Not Disturb)/2442 Issues

Dear Customers,

Sequel to our previous message about non delivering MTN messages. We have some more updates.

Interestingly, The issue doesnt affect all MTN Numbers, It does however affect numbers having issues with the newly deployed DND (2442) Do Not Disturb enforced by NCC for bulk SMS/spam filter for mobile numbers.

We have confirmed that the error received from MTN for delivery to some MSISDNs definitely corresponds to DND, yet some of theses mssidns tested received the message that this is not the case. This simply means that the inconsistent data has been sent out from MTN.

We employ Individual(s) who feel they are not receiving some web2sms sent/delivered to contact MTN personally and ask why they are not recieving such messages.

Alternatively – you can text HELP to 2442 to know the status of your DND and get help.

MTN Nigeria Messages not delivering

MTN Undelivered SMS due to new FILTERS

Hello Dear smsBAG Customers,

During the past 1-2 weeks, you might have noticed increasing NOT_DELIVERED SMS for some of your messages on the MTN Nigeria Network. This is due to a series of new filters that have been updated on the MTN Network.

Unfortunately MTN will not release the key identifiers for this Filters so we are left with guiding our customers to avoid related keywords that represents promos, awards, e.t.c for MTN Network.

Some of the Keywords identified so far includes PROMO, PROMOTION, CONGRATS, AWARD, CONGRATULATIONS, Names of POLITICIANS e.g. Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, e.t.c.

It is advisable that you test you messages if you are sending a bulk message to be sure it will deliver before you blast the message.

On our side, All messages returned as NOT_DELIVERED are still being re-credited into your account if we get a reply from the MTN SMSC Gateway.

We apologize for this inconveniences as we hope this will resolve soon and make sending web2sms more enjoyable again.

E-Payment Not Working (Card Payments Offline)

Hello Dear Customer,

By now, you must have noticed that our Epaymant platform has been offline. We deeply regret this inconvenience and we know how hard this must have been for those that use it regularly.

Why is it down?

GTPay/Interswitch have a little change in Technical specs which affected our integration, One we are working with them to rectify. Hopefully this wont take much any longer.

What are the Alternatives?

As usual, Our direct bank deposits via GTB is still a option of choice and Internet Bank transfers or ATM point transfers are also preferable if you don’t have time to reach a nearby bank.

Going Forward

We only use one bank and have relied on online payments and online transfers to do the rest but we are listening to you and we will be adding 2 new banks to our already own GTB to ease access to Bank deposits. We will keep you posted on this one.

Again, we apologize for the present state of our E-payment platform, and we promise to work faster and let you know when its back.
